Prismacolor colored pencils on 18x24in watercolor paper.
September 2013.
For our finals plate in Techniques I, we had to do a reproduction of Madonna with the Blue Diadem painted by Raphael and his student, Gianfrancesco Penni. This was done in the course of one month, in between classes and other activities.
We were basically given a print out of the reference. To increase the accuracy of the reproduction, I used the slanting grid method (as you can see on the right). Although we were given the liberty to change the background however we liked.
I lost this piece after an exhibit back in 2014. To this day, I still think this is one of my best works. I really love doing reproduction of renaissance art so I’m definitely gonna produce more.
